Clarkston partnered with an international biotech company to develop and help execute plans to derisk portions of their supply chain prior to pending BIOSECURE Act legislation updates.
The client had been leveraging contract manufacturing based in China for a specialty raw material that was necessary for their commercial products. With the new potential BIOSECURE Act legislation, compounded by increases in demand, the client needed to diversify their supply chain to mitigate the risk of losing access to a critical raw material and delaying drug production.
Clarkston was engaged to help manage the effort from strategy to execution. The team facilitated several key conversations with leadership to ensure internal alignment on key objectives and the high-level strategy. Next, Clarkston conducted in-depth workshops to create detailed short, mid-term, and long-term risk mitigation plans. From there, Clarkston managed the execution of the time sensitive short-term plan to forward buy safety stock from current China-based contract manufacturing.
To accomplish the buy, Clarkston managed a cross-functional team to ensure accurate forecasts were created, an inventory strategy was developed, specifications were aligned, and ultimately all inventory was received into warehouse. Clarkston also created the roadmap for the client to follow for their mid-term objectives to onboard and qualify future non-China-based contract manufacturers for use.
As a result, the client minimized risk and potential impact of the BIOSECURE Act on their supply chain and ensured no immediate impact to drug production. Our comprehensive supply chain consulting services help companies remain compliant and innovative in this evolving landscape.
