Expanding LIMS Functionality with LabVantage: Advanced Analytics for a Gene Therapy Company

Clarkston Consulting recently partnered with a gene therapy client on their project of expanding LIMS functionality with LabVantage. Read a synopsis of the project below or download the full case study.

An innovative gene therapy client in the process of moving manufacturing from a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) to in-house production needed to expand their LIMS functionality to include Raw Materials, an ERP integration, and Biobanking. Following a successful vendor selection and initial LabVantage implementation

Clarkston Consulting was engaged to create Raw Material Products and Sampling Plan master data in the LabVantage LIMS solution as well as provide technical guidance and expertise to interface with Oracle ERP to initiate Raw Material batches in LIMS. Clarkston collaborated with the client and the ERP team to simplify understanding of what data points were crucial for a successful interface and facilitated demonstrations for pushing lots and inventory information from the ERP to LIMS.

Clarkston was also engaged in setting up master data for Biobanking including anatomical sites, custodial departments, sample types, and array methods and layouts. The client used a sample manifest to house sample data and was able to work with LabVantage to achieve accessioning samples through import at the push of a button. We worked with the vendor to customize the LabVantage Advanced Analytics module to display calibration curves and statistical analysis of the designated array method. Adding specific analytics parameters allowed a write back of statistical data points into LIMS.

The ability to interface the ERP with LIMS was integral for batch creation of Raw Materials, as the risk of error was greatly reduced. On the R&D side, Biobanking was expanded to rapidly accession samples using an import feature capturing gender, location, and other sample details at a fast rate. Most importantly, the advanced analytics module allowed for the lab to create calibration curves on an array in a matter of seconds while sending statistical data back to LabVantage for reporting and the predictability of a potential failure.
