Selecting a Next-Gen LIMS Vendor for a Consumer Products Manufacturer

A global paper product manufacturer was leveraging an aging system to record and monitor product quality on their manufacturing lines. The antiquated system could no longer support the business and its desire to grow. There was a distinct opportunity to reconsider current state processes, interfaces, and reporting capabilities. The client engaged Clarkston Consulting’s Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) professionals to evaluate and select a next-gen LIMS vendor. 

Clarkston executed on-site Needs Assessment Workshops -site with the team to confirm requirements and business processes as well as determine demo scenarios and selection criteria for the client’s paper, commercial, and component businesses. The Clarkston team dove into site master data to assess the level of build effort and harmonization opportunities for the future state.  

Using Clarkston’s LIMS Vendor Selection Methodology and Vendor Market Scan, the Clarkston team assessed the capabilities of each vendor to evaluate their effectiveness in supporting the client’s business needs. This effort narrowed the selection options to a shortlist of five vendors that would best meet their requirements. Through system functionality demos, vendor questionnaires, and IT evaluations, the core team selected and recommended proceeding to negotiation with a LIMS vendor to deploy to the paper-mogul’s 20+ manufacturing sites. 

Clarkston also worked with the client to develop a detailed short-term and long-term implementation strategy, inclusive of deployment approaches and considerations meant to ramp up growth, increase productivity, and mitigate the change impact of the technological transformation
