A leading paints and coatings company was executing a decentralized implementation of SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM)/Transportation Management (TM) to better integrate with its existing ERP system. This project posed significant challenges due to an accelerated timeline, requiring the majority of their 17 North American warehouses to transition within a one-year period.
In order to manage this timeline, this project was divided into waves, beginning with a single warehouse and ramping up to four concurrent sites. During these waves, testing and training were being done simultaneously, which limited resource availability.
Clarkston supported the training portion of the SAP EWM/TM implementation, helping ensure user readiness and contributing to timely, efficient go-lives. Their methodology included:
- Training Documentation: The Clarkston team developed a comprehensive assortment of training materials—including course decks, job aids, exercise guides, and Business Process Procedures via SAP Enable Now—to support both Train-the-Trainer (TTT) and End-User Training (EUT) models. These resources had the bonus of being reusable for any new hires post-transition to SAP EWM/TM.
- Training Facilitation: Clarkston’s SMEs remained actively engaged throughout the training, from demoing SAP transactions to monitoring attendance across waves involving 100+ warehouse personnel. This ensured accurate role-based access and readiness for go-live.
- Adaptive Learning Strategies: Clarkston tailored training delivery to accommodate diverse learning styles, combining structured classroom sessions with guided exercises to coordinating large-scale practice sessions to provide hands-on experience in the SAP training environment.
This structured and responsive training approach contributed to repeated successful go-lives and supported the company’s broader goal of achieving a more integrated and efficient warehouse management system.
