Clarkston Consulting recently partnered with a global toy and product manufacturer to update their legacy ERP systems with the latest SAP technology platform S/4HANA. This implementation supported their future growth plans and addressed their acute need for consistent business processes to minimize manual workloads. The rollout of SAP also occurred in conjunction with the acquisition of another toy company, necessitating its seamless integration to fully benefit from the newly gained resources and capabilities. The successful adoption of SAP S4/HANA and acquisition enabled smooth day-to-day operations and allowed them to retain a competitive advantage in the market.

The client already had robust and highly integrated processes with their third-party logistics (3PL) providers, with over 150 customers purchasing through their Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) system. The newly integrated SAP system had to guarantee a seamless transition in operations, precluding any disruptions to processing EDI orders.

Working closely with client counterparts, Clarkston conducted workshops to examine the extent of customizations needed to merge SAP into current systems and workflows. Ultimately several business processes were adopted in line with Clarkston’s recommended best practices to limit the need for customization and system complexity. This also had the effect of creating better stability, visibility, and data reliability across the organization.

To further support the migration to SAP, Clarkston created training materials for over 480 global users leveraging SAP Enable Now to encourage adoption and boost productivity. Moreover, Clarkston leveraged their Organizational Change Management Methodology to address acute process needs throughout the engagement. For example, working closely with the data team, dry runs were conducted to mimic the upcoming cutover to refine processes and methods and to ensure all teams had a thorough understanding of roles and responsibilities.

Due to these key partnerships and extensive preparations, the SAP Go-Live was successfully executed as a one-time global event. The Go-Live was subsequently supported across the client’s international hubs through a detailed hypercare support network, with longer term support ultimately provided by Clarkston’s AMS team. The robust partnership of trust that Clarkston cultivated with the client ultimately drove the harmonious work throughout the project, enabling the project’s success, and setting the stage for greater operational efficiencies to support future growth.
