The client is an industry leader in the development and manufacturing of laboratory products, focused on making products that clinical laboratories can use to ensure their instruments are accurately reporting patient results. The client is he client is at the center of helping clinical laboratories keep pace with the change in the medical field; hospitals, physician offices, and research laboratories worldwide rely on this company’s controls.
The client engaged Clarkston to help enhance the security of their LabVantage LIMS by implementing more specific Job Types with predefined system access. The goal was to leverage out-of-the-box features to control access to menus, tramlines, and tramstops based on roles and job responsibilities. As part of the project, Clarkston configured new Job Types and Roles, such as Viewer and Instrument Team, and refined existing roles like Analyst, Lab Manager, and Administrator. Using these Roles and Job Types, Clarkston utilized features from LabVantage webpages to restrict access to menus, tramlines, and tramstops by the different Job Types, in alignment with a predefined access matrix provided by the client and implemented in the LabVantage DEV environment.
After thorough testing, the Clarkston team oversaw the migration of these new role configurations from the DEV to the QA environment. Subsequently, the team made any necessary updates to the access restrictions to ensure accuracy in the QA environment. Once the configurations were in place, the team conducted a detailed demo for LIMS users, showcasing the new access controls and addressing any questions. Clarkston then enabled the client’s team to test the configurations themselves to confirm everything functioned as intended, based on the predefined matrix. Finally, Clarkston delivered a comprehensive reference document for the client to use for any future access enhancements, ensuring a smooth handoff and successful project completion.
As a result, robust LIMS security by the incorporation of additional Job Types and refined existing roles, (b) better access or restriction to LIMS functionalities, and (c) access to a reference document to assist with future access modifications with a growing user base.
