How SAP is Enhancing the SAP Developer Experience

While the future of SAP remains unpredictable, the planned path forward is to keep investing and developing SAP S/4HANA Cloud, specifically in the Business Technology Platform as the main component of the technology strategy for SAP developer experience. At the annual SAP TechEd event earlier this year, SAP Chief Technology Officer Juergen Mueller admitted that a weakness of SAP is that it lacks an SAP developer-friendly system and contains complexities and roadblocks.

Many developers have worried about their value potentially diminishing because SAP has become more structured. Mueller enthusiastically calls on the strategists and designers to enhance their experience going forward. Those responsible for these changes include various developer resources that work with different technologies and varying degrees of expertise, and ultimately are tasked with building the future of SAP for SAP developers.

SAP is Dedicated to Amplifying the SAP Developer Experience in Developer Communities:

Extensibility
Easier for developers to work the same way as ECC system but in SAP S/4 HANA cloud (Enterprise Messaging). Event driven architectures including ABAP (language behind the SAP company) are still very relevant in the future development, and as a result SAP is introducing the release of 2011 SAP Cloud Platform ABAP Environment – Multitenancy.

Data to Value
SAP S/4 HANA cloud combines the capabilities of on premise with cloud capabilities, and therefore connects SAP and non-SAP environments. With its 2021 release, AP Cloud will be able to handle Petabyte sized data and would even enable raw data files from SQL to be imported or exported. The ability to connect different sources into SAP Analytics cloud allows customers to have access to data that can be used to create insights about the organization. This will be an essential tool in the coming years for designers, data integration and much more.

Integration
Full integration within SAP systems has become a possibility due to the SAP one domain model and SAP Cloud platform master data integration services. Each of these are available out the box and for free. Integration of SAP into 3rd parties is also possible for the SAP developer experience.

To learn more about integration and extension needs, SAP API Business Hub is available offering a catalog with broad range selection of products, which includes SAP S/4HANA Cloud. Also visit roamaps.sap.com/go/btp.
