Clarkston partnered with a global pharmaceutical company’s vaccines R&D division to design and implement a departmental Key Performance Indicator (KPI) framework to strengthen operational visibility, decision-making, and cross-functional alignment. The engagement addressed challenges related to fragmented performance measurement, inconsistent definitions, and limited transparency across critical operational functions supporting clinical readiness.
Clarkston began by aligning with stakeholders to define strategic objectives and expectations for performance measurements. Through structured discovery sessions and cross-functional workshops, Clarkston assessed existing processes, data sources, and metrics across multiple operational teams. This assessment identified gaps between activity-based reporting and leadership’s need for forward-looking indicators that reflected readiness, reliability, capacity, and risk.
Based on these insights, Clarkston developed a standardized KPI framework grounded in business intent rather than task execution. Each KPI was clearly defined with a formal statement, calculation logic, ownership model, data sourcing approach, target-setting methodology, and interpretation guidance. The framework was designed to be scalable and sustainable, enabling consistent measurement across teams while allowing flexibility for functional nuances.
To ensure adoption and long-term value, Clarkston worked closely with teams to align KPIs with department priorities and existing operational processes. This alignment reduced ambiguity, improved metric credibility, and established a shared performance language across functions. Clarkston also delivered executive-ready final presentation materials to support leadership communication, alignment, and decision-making.
The outcome was a cohesive, repeatable KPI methodology that improved the client’s ability to monitor operational health, proactively identify risks, and prioritize improvement efforts. The engagement positioned the client with a durable performance management foundation that supports data-driven governance, operational excellence, and sustained business impact.
