A leading global footwear and apparel company engaged Clarkston Consulting to assess its legacy enterprise technology landscape and define a path toward a more scalable, modern architecture. 

Following years of rapid growth, the organization’s core operational systems, built on highly customized, homegrown platforms, had become increasingly complex. While these systems supported critical processes across product data, order management, inventory, global trade, and financial processes, they introduced operational inefficiencies and increased risk due to manual processes and reliance on institutional knowledge. Although these challenges were well understood internally, the organization lacked a comprehensive, structured view of system capabilities and dependencies, as well as a clear path forward. 

Clarkston led a structured enterprise technology discovery initiative to validate and document the current-state environment. Through system walkthroughs and detailed analysis, the team mapped business roles, process flows, and integrations across the legacy ecosystem. This effort provided a unified view of how these legacy, customized systems support operations today and clarified key dependencies and areas of complexity. 

In parallel, Clarkston evaluated how these system capabilities could be replaced with future-state technology platforms within the organization’s existing strategic ecosystem. By assessing solution fit and mapping business requirements to target systems, the team defined a future-state architecture designed to simplify the technology landscape while maintaining critical functionality. 

The engagement culminated in a phased roadmap to retire legacy systems and transition to modern platforms in a controlled, risk-managed manner. The roadmap balanced speed with operational continuity, managing dependencies and geographic rollout considerations. 

As a result, the organization is equipped with a clear, actionable plan to modernize its core systems, reduce risk, and establish a scalable foundation to support continued global growth.
