This clinical-stage biotechnology company was preparing its first commercial launch, a critical milestone that would define its transition from a development-stage organization to a commercial enterprise. While the company had already developed a detailed go-to-market (GTM) strategy, internal stakeholders expressed concerns about its completeness and executability.
Clarkston partnered with the organization to assess its commercial readiness and validate its GTM approach. Through a series of cross-functional workshops and analyses, Clarkston determined that the GTM plan itself was largely well-developed and aligned with industry best practices. However, the root of stakeholder concerns stemmed from gaps in cross-functional alignment, organizational commercial readiness, and the absence of a clearly defined product strategic plan to guide execution.
To address this, Clarkston shifted the focus from rebuilding the GTM strategy to strengthening the foundation beneath it. The team developed a comprehensive commercialization roadmap spanning product, market, and organizational dimensions. This included refining key strategic elements such as distribution, patient services, and commercial data strategy, while ensuring alignment across functions.
A critical outcome of the engagement was the recommendation and design of a Transformation Management Office (TMO). This governance structure enabled the organization to coordinate cross-functional workstreams, manage interdependencies, and maintain momentum toward launch.
By combining validation of the existing GTM strategy with targeted enhancements to organizational readiness and product strategy, Clarkston provided the client with a clear, actionable path forward. The result was increased stakeholder confidence, improved alignment, and a structured approach to executing a successful commercial launch.
