Clarkston partnered with a category-leading global food company to help them create greater value from their use of data and analytics across the organization. The client was seeking to better utilize internal data sets created from sales and operations across the business as well as external data sets to drive incremental growth and bottom-line optimization. Across 12 weeks, Clarkston assessed the current data strategy, architecture, and acumen across the business, and developed more than 100 specific recommendations across high impact areas such as customer engagement, assortment, pricing, and labor efficiency. With leading practice recommendations in place, the team developed a tailored roadmap guiding the client from their current state to a future state that creates significant and sustainable growth.
While the organization operated across several domains and collected data from numerous first- and third-party sources, they struggled to consistently make use of the data to drive better business decisions. In some areas of the business, there was consistent data capture and management, while for other areas, the challenges were in insight generation across data sets or in inconsistent data-driven decision making. To develop tailored recommendations, Clarkston assessed the current state across data practices, organization and use of data, internal processes, as well as systems and technical data architecture.
Clarkston worked with leadership to confirm the most critical opportunity areas where the team felt data could be better utilized to drive growth or great profitability. Based on the prioritization of needs in alignment with business strategy and a deep understanding of current state, the Clarkston team developed more than 20 unique recommendations for each of the use cases identified as most valuable. These recommendations were developed to take incremental steps over time towards leading practice within the organizational constraints around financial and time allocation.
These were brought together in a holistic roadmap that guided the client through the enhancement of the data architecture and new practices to make full use of better insight generation over the course of three years. By executing the changes, the client stands to realize more than $10MM in incremental revenue with significant improvement in profitability and cash flow generation, while improving on system and support costs.
