A national fashion retailer, known for its mix of classic and modern clothing for all ages, sought to enhance its credit card offerings. The retailer aimed to switch bank partners for its private label credit card program and introduce a co-branded card. This move was intended to improve customer support and extend the card’s usability beyond the retailer’s stores. After conducting a Request for Proposal (RFP), the retailer selected a new vendor and needed technical program management for the bank transition and how to implement a co-branded credit card.

The client engaged Clarkston to actively manage in partnership with their PMO the technical aspects of this transition. Clarkston collaborated with the bank vendor, client stakeholders, and third parties to design the program, gather requirements, oversee development and quality assurance (QA), and ensure a smooth product launch. Clarkston’s role involved prioritizing tasks across multiple teams, managing detailed planning sessions, and balancing diverse stakeholder interests. Despite various challenges, Clarkston kept the project on track over the year-long engagement.

The primary objectives were to transition current cardholders to the new bank, introduce a co-branded card, set up back-end systems for the new bank and card, and adjust loyalty program rules to align with the new card program. To achieve these, Clarkston led program design sessions, managed development and QA timelines, facilitated vendor collaboration, developed strategic materials, led executive steering committees, and provided on-site support during the launch and hypercare phases.

As a result of the engagement, the project was successfully completed on schedule, with customers now able to apply for and use their new cards in-store and online.
