Learning, Training, and Development: Taking Stock with Jessica Mitsch
In January 2020, the World Economic Forum released statements calling for a “global reskilling revolution”, estimating that 42% of core skills required to perform existing jobs are expected to change by 2022. Since then, the COVID pandemic has rapidly accelerated digitalization across nearly every industry and only placed an even stronger focus on the need for new skills and capabilities in our modern workforce, making learning, training, and development all the more critical for any business.
Investing in professional development and training isn’t just an imperative to keep up in our digital age – it’s a demand from employees both current and prospective. We’re living in a candidate-driven market in recruitment and potential employees are looking keenly at how businesses will support their individual career development and training. Further, as we discuss in this episode, learning, training, and development offers employers a strategic lever to improving diversity, equity, and inclusion in their business and assists in narrowing the racial, gender, and age disparity that has plagued IT and tech functions.
That said, I’m excited to welcome Jessica Mitsch to this week’s Taking Stock. Jessica is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Momentum, a coding school and development program and sister company of Clarkston. On this episode of Taking Stock, Jessica and I walk through her background, Momentum’s founding, changes in the workforce, and the impact of COVID on diversity, equity, and inclusion, career development, workforce planning, training, and more.
