Recently, a global consumer products conglomerate acquired a sustainable food industry leader in a strategic move to reshape its portfolio and deliver higher and more sustainable growth in fast-growing segments. The acquisition leveraged the manufacturing strengths of the acquirer with health and sustainability-focused products of the acquired. This move signaled the current shift in consumer preferences to healthier foods, while still maintaining affordability during times of economic uncertainty

The acquisition required integration of the supply chain planning processes, systems, and overall operating model into the parent company’s. Building upon the successes of previous work for this client, Clarkston Consulting was engaged as a trusted partner to support both the process and technology integration of the client’s new supply chain planning solution.

The primary objectives of the engagement included ensuring a successful integration of the supply chain planning solution, facilitating the alignment of the supply chain demand planning and supply planning processes between the acquired and parent company, achieving master data alignment between the two entities, and ensuring reporting visibility.

In addition to managing the supply chain planning solution requirements gathering, technical design, development, and validation, Clarkston facilitated interviews and group discussions to discuss and align on future state supply chain planning ways of work and created robust process maps for training and change management. The Clarkston team also supported the client’s new organizational model by backfilling the supply chain planning team for a seamless organization transition.

Clarkston’s support of the client’s supply chain integration allowed both the acquirer and acquired companies to operate on a single supply chain planning platform and ensured that planners were trained in both the solution and supporting processes.
