H. D. Smith is the fourth largest wholesale drug distribution company in the US. Their mission is to be the preferred, customer-focused, national supplier of healthcare products and business solutions improving the quality, safety and cost of patient care while maintaining the highest level of honesty and integrity. The OPUS project was a global business transformation project that would provide automation and standardization, improve business processes, and support scalable growth for H. D. Smith. Our goal was to provide a holistic approach to a multi-phased SAP implementation, bringing industry, solution, and change management expertise to help transform H. D. Smith’s organization.

CHALLENGE
We joined this multi-phased SAP implementation in the early stages of realization. Incorporating our SuccessCheck™ methodology and SAP best practices, we helped build a roadmap for success, aligning with stakeholders on critical success factors.

APPROACH
We worked with H. D. Smith to implement an integrated SAP solution that involved Enterprise Central Component, Warehouse Management, and Business Objects to support process design, integrating those solutions with multiple systems. Our team also assisted in the reengineering of key Procure-to-Pay and Order-to-Cash processes for efficiency and scalability.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Our team worked closely with H. D. Smith to develop a solution that would provide automation and standardization, and implemented baseline, cross-functional processes to support visibility and future growth. We provided change management guidance and training activities for nearly 250 users, further supporting the process and technology change.

RESULTS
Working closely with the client, we utilized our SuccessCheck™ and Coherent Speed™ methodology to help H. D. Smith achieve impressive results, including:

• Reduced inventory levels and DSO;
