Clarkston Consulting Founders: Taking Stock with Tom Finegan and Neil Nelson

Clarkston Consulting was established when a small group of consultants came together to start the firm almost 30 years years ago. They had a vision of creating a different kind of consulting company. They sought to create a professional services company that focused on the success of their clients while, just as importantly, encouraging the personal growth of their stewards.

From the early days of Clarkston, our founders quickly realized that industry knowledge in mission-critical business processes and depth of technology expertise would be what differentiated them from other consultants. These capabilities, coupled with Clarkston’s continued pursuit of brilliant client service, has allowed the firm to thrive through multiple economic cycles and changing industry dynamics.

In this week’s Taking Stock, it was my great privilege to sit down with Clarkston co-founders Tom Finegan and Neil Nelson.  Tom and Neil will take you back to the original idea of Clarkston Consulting, what market need they sought to meet, what they were looking for in some of their first hires into the firm and the origination of the foundational principles that still guide the firm today.  Their perspective on business transformation is of particular interest, considering the ever-changing market dynamics over the course of almost 30 years.
